ILLUSTRATING & SCULPTING QUOTATIONS FOR THE BRITISH LIBRARY

Typographic illustrations to be exhibited in The British Library showcasing “The World’s Knowledge”, not just academic’s. For this poster series I used quotations from figures as varied as Aldous Huxley to Jade Goody. Left and Below are two of the executions.

Left:

“If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.”

Noam Chomsky quotation made using pen and ink on skin. The image does for popular society what the quotation says, giving a loud voice to extremism.

Lower:
“Everything is beautiful if you want to experience it totally.”

Charles Manson quotation sculpted from mixed media. Whilst his quotation is about beauty, the imagery overtly references Manson’s heinous crimes. The materials are comprised of a combination of off-cuts from the butcher, human hair, and bodily fluids.
